Research Thesis Topic
The history of feminist publishing in Australia
This research aims to develop a long durée history of feminist publishing in Australia. Building on an emergent historiography, its objective is to establish a historical narrative about the many threads of Australia’s feminist publishing scene across the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. Research may relate to newspapers and newsletters in the suffrage and women’s liberation movements, as well as the development of feminist presses, magazines, and digital cultures. It could also chart the parallel rise of academic knowledge production about feminism and gender studies. This research project will be grounded in historical research and based on the analysis of primary sources in traditional and digital archives.
